TRADEMARK CLASS 14: Jewellery, Precious Metals and Stones

The International (Nice) Classification of Goods and Services divides goods and services into 45 Trademark Classes (1 to 34 cover Goods, and 35 to 45 cover Services). The Indian Trademark Registry uses this classification to categorize trademarks.

Class 14 primarily includes precious metals, precious metal goods not included in other classes, and, in general, jewelry, clocks, and watches. It also includes precious metals and their alloys, as well as goods made of precious metals or coated in precious metals that are not included in other classes; jeweler, precious stones, and horological and chronometric instruments.

Trademark Class 14 includes:

  • Jewelry (i.e., imitation jewelry and jewelry of precious metal and stones)
  • Cuff links, tie pins,
  • Keyrings, key chains, and charms
  • Jewelry charms
  • Jewelry boxes
  • Component parts for jewelry, clocks, and watches, for example, clasps and beads for jewelry, movements for clocks and watches, clock hands, watch springs, watch crystals.
  • Precious Metals and Alloys of the same
  • Goods made up of precious metal or metals or coated therewith
  • Jewelry Items
  • Gemstones and other costly stones
  • Statues and Figurines
  • Clocks and Watches
  • Horological and Chronometric Instruments

Trademark Class 14 does not include:

Precious metal goods classified by function or purpose, such as metals in foil and powder form for painters, decorators, printers, and artists (Class 2):

  1. Amalgam of gold for dentists (Class 5)
  2. Cutlery (Class 8)
  3. Electric contacts (Class 9)
  4. Pen nibs of gold (Class 16)
  5. Teapots (Class 21)
  6. Gold and silver embroidery (Class 26)
  7. Cigar boxes (Class 34)
  8. Smart Watches (Class 9)

Objects of art that are not made of precious metals or coated with precious metals and are classified according to the material from which they are made, such as works of art made of metal (Class 6), stone, concrete, or marble (Class 19), wood, wax, plaster, or plastic (Class 20), porcelain, terra-cotta, or glass (Class 21). (Class 21)
